Is the sky falling for Joomla?
In Google Trends - Joomla! vs Wordpress vs Druplal, the line for Joomla! on the trends graph is falling in a very disturbing way. Despite the optimism prior to Joomla! 1.6 which brought much desired improvements like advanced access control list (ACL), Joomla! has not prospered in comparison to Wordpress. A continued fall on the chart may imply that Joomla! could find it's final resting place at the bottom of the three lines. Why is this happening?Add a comment
This month the Joomla! Community Magazine online has published a feature article by JoeJoomla. You do read the Joomla! Community Magazine don't you? If you haven't heard about it you need to go on over there and see the great articles, tutorials, and all the other fine stuff that the Community Magazine Team works so hard to put together for your benefit. Besides, it's the only way you're going to get to read my "Friendly Advice For Your Joomla Adventure".

Joomla! website developers usually have a few good tricks up their sleeves. Although magicians usually don't want to reveal their slight-of-hand goodies, Joomla! people are much more generous. All you usually have to do is ask. So what's one of my favourite Joomla! tricks? I'm glad you asked.
One of my favourite Joomla! tricks is the loadposition command. This gives you the ability to load a module inside an article. Just think of all the neat things that you can do with this. Using this technique your articles can have all kinds of dynamic content inside them. You can insert a weather module, rotating images, or a Twitter feed inside an article, whatever you can do in a module you can put in your article.
So how do we do this trick?
Rock stars are people who have celebrity status, or 'stardom' in their various industries. Joomla! has no shortage of them. Cory Webb, who I regard as a Joomla! rock star, described "How to Become a Joomla! Rockstar in 3 Easy Steps". He stated the steps are simply (1) Build a website with Joomla. (2) Learn from your mistakes (3) Repeats steps 1 & 2. This sounds like basic three chord rock and will certainly get you started toward rock star status in the Joomla! world.
Some Joomla! rock stars enjoy their celebrity and others loath it. For some it's all about the code and not about the people. For others it's about community involvement. Whatever you believe, Joomla! is as fascinating and colourful as any whenAdd a comment
